Life Takes Us For a Ride - Part 1

Three weeks ago, our lives sort of got flipped upside down for a bit. The first thing to happen was that our a/c went out. Not too big of a deal, except that our home warranty people sent really incompetent A/C people who couldn't come out for two days, then didn't even order the part until the day after they came out. They finally came out and had ordered the wrong part. Well, it was the right part, but apparently they didn't know that the part comes with one of two brackets. They ordered the wrong one.

They didn't order the correct one until way late in the day. The guy comes out again and everything seems right as rain until two minutes after he leaves and Mark realizes the thermostat is coming on and shutting off over and over by itself. He called the a/c company less than 5 minutes after the guy left our house. They said he wouldn't be able to come back out again that night. Yeah right. Mark got the manager on the phone and chewed them out. The manager assured Mark that the guy would indeed come back out, however, he'd already made it to the next stop so it would an hour or so. Ugh.

The guy returned, found the problem, fixed it and left again. A few minutes later Mark walked outside and realized the outside unit was not on, but the inside unit was. This time he just called the guy directly since he had his cell phone number on caller id. He asked, "Is the outside unit supposed to be on, too?" The guy turned around and came back to the house. THIRD time for the day.

At this point the guy realizes that the original installation of the a/c unit had the wires put in backwards. A previous a/c guy figured this out and just made sure he matched up the right wires. This a/c guy didn't realize that so he switched the wires which would have normally been correct, but was backwards here. It caused a short. So, he figured that out, too, and we were finally with working a/c.

This took TEN days!!!

We were able to stay with some friends after trying to stick it out here for three days with a small portable a/c unit. It just couldn't keep up with the 100 degree weather we were having.

We were supposed to start school the following Monday and my homeschool room was only half painted the day the a/c went out. So, it set us back two weeks! All is well now though and the house is nice and cool!
